Coming Soon: Chinese Zodiac Jewelry From Sara Blaine

Sara Blaine has done it again and this time she has created a charming new collection surrounding the classic Chinese Zodiac characters. Each piece is skillfully crafted from sterling silver with tremendous attention to detail. Each item in the collection features the Chinese animal sign of any given year. The pendants and bracelets showcase a cultured white pearl on the reverse side. The bracelets incorporate a toggle with cultured white pearls on each end. The rings have the Chinese symbols engraved on one side and the animal name written in English on the other.

The Chinese Zodiac collection from Sara Blaine celebrates the unique characteristics attributed to each individual born within a specific year under a certain animal sign. For example, legend has it that those born in the year of the rabbit are affectionate, talented, obliging, always pleasant, valuing security and tranquility. While those born in the year of the ox are natural born leaders who succeed when given the chance and will also make outstanding parents.

According to Chinese legend, the twelve animals in the Chinese Zodiac quarreled as to who was to be the first in the cycle of years. The gods were asked to decide and they held a contest. In this contest, whoever reached the opposite bank of the river would be first, and the rest of the animals would receive their years according to their finish.

All the twelve animals gathered at the river bank and jumped in. Legend has it that the rat had jumped upon the back of the ox. As the ox was about to jump ashore, the rat jumped off the ox's back and won the race. The pig ended up last. That is why the rat is the first year of the animal cycle, the ox is second and the pig is last.
